Library Card Style Pockets Made From Book Pages - Arts and Crafts

Library Card Style Pockets Made From Book Pages
I like having glue-able pockets that I can place in my artist journals.

This one was made by folding a sheet of paper, leaving one side longer than the other. Trim the paper so that you have a tab that can be folded over and glued in the back.

I was going to look for a pattern for you but there is a plethora if you Google "library card pocket template" I like just making it up on a case by case basis to best use the book paper.

I wanted this adorable border to top my library pocket so I cut a rectangle, folded tabs on 3 sides and glued a larger rectangle in back to make a pocket.

This was done basically the same as the last but I used scrapbook paper for the pocket back.

Alexander Calder Inspired Paper Cut Drawing, Day 18 Modern Artists

abstract paper cut image of sea urchin under the sea

Alexander Calder is famous for his mobiles and bright palette. I started to do this paper cut, La Mer, in primary colors but it felt too close to Calder's work.

I freehand cut linen textured card stock and glued it to white paper. The image is a sea urchin with ocean currents and bubbles.

Wassily Kandinsky Inspired Cut Paper Circles, Day 14 Modern Artists

Six layered circles

Kandinsky is probably my favorite Modern Painter. I plan to explore his style further but today was a bit hectic.

I used hombre origami paper to cut out circles and glued them together. Kandinsky's circle paintings seem to be a favorite with children's art teachers and his exuberant style is well suited to children.

Sea Monster Pop Up Card With Download, Day 20 Creatures

octopus mouth pop up card
I don't think I'd care to see a mouth like this while diving, it's small but mighty. To make a beak pop-up fold you cut a slit, make two triangular folds and change the fold direction of the center crease and the beak. The beak is similar to doing the mountain and valley folds in origami.

If you want to make one here is the downloadable PDF. The finished size is 5 x 7 when folded and can be printed on letter sized paper. Feel free to use it for personal use, if you want to use it commercially contact me.

Origami Monster Corner Bookmark Day 13 Creatures

origami monster bookmark on an Edgar Allan Poe book

Origami doesn't normally utilize glue and scissors but monsters make their own rules.

I was going to write the directions for making the bookmark base but it's an old pattern and Milomade has a very nice tutorial.

I made the base then glued on a fringed blue triangle for bangs.  The bangs location determined where to place the free hand cut horns, eyes and fangs.

Mac Monster Buddies Day 12 Creatures

paper cut monsters on a computer screen corner
I took some paper and freehand cut the paper monster shapes. They were glued together with a glue stick.

The standing figure looks rather normal but his little friend is slightly odder. He's quite happy in his bow tie but I don't think I ever saw a bunny with fangs.
